Splitbark Brown

So… remember that time that you tried to take photos of your new mittens… while wearing the mittens… and taking the photos…?

As it turns out, this is not the easiest thing to do!

These are the Splitbark Mittens by Stephen West, who you may know by now is one of my favourite designers… The yarn is Fibra Natura’s Shepherd’s Own, which is a line of yarns all in natural, undyed sheepy colours. Add some adorable moose buttons and you’re all set:

Awesome mitts! It’s always great to see what you make in each month’s designated colour. It’s also always great to get a chance to shop at Needles in the Hay – like I will next week when I’m in Peterborough for the Bring Food Home conference. What joy!

Question: what is that fantastic hat you are wearing in the second photo?

Ooo, I have a friend coming to town for that conference too! I think Peterbeau’s going to be a busy place next week!

The hat is called Slouch Copy Cat Hat, a free pattern from Rav that can be found here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/slouchy-copy-cat-hat
It’s done with faux-cables, and it’s super fast. Enjoy!

    Kniterary is a social night for knitters (and crocheters) in Peterborough. It’s quite likely that someone there could show you the basics, but you do need to bring your own materials (a pair of needles and some yarn). I would check out some videos at http://www.knittinghelp.com or search “learn to knit” on youtube.com just to get yourself prepped…

I highly recommend the Crochet Master Class book. . . which I may have recommended you carry
